Ice & wonder.

One way to open your eyes is to ask yourself, ‘What if I had never seen this before? What if I knew i would never see it again?’
— Rachel Carson

We woke up on Tuesday to an icy kingdom. Every twig and blade of grass preserved perfectly in a thin glass coating. Our porch was slick, the trees were creaking and groaning. Our dog couldn't understand why her toys were stuck to the ground. It's not often you get to see your very familiar back yard transformed into a glittering world of new and beautiful patterns. For all the so-called havoc it brings to our quotidian rhythms, it's a disruption I'm thrilled to welcome.

Happy winter. I hope, if you found yourself in an icy world last week, you had a moment to marvel.
